EastEnders` Pakistani wedding tops UK`s TRP charts
An Asian wedding, complete with dancers and a horse drawn buggy, was what the British audience tuned in to during the New Year as the wedding of Amira and
Syed in the BBC soap `EastEnders` topped UK`s TRP charts.
A peak of 12.3 million
viewers tuned in to see the lavish wedding of the two Pakistani characters, beating off competition from the cult series `Dr Who`, reported Daily Mail
online.
"We are absolutely delighted that it was a huge night for EastEnders with 12.3 million tuning into watch the Masood wedding on New Year`s Day," said a BBC spokesman.
And the public broadcaster put in quite an effort to make the wedding as authentic as possible.
"Amira`s costume was bought in an Asian boutique in East London then sent to India for a fitting. The scriptwriters watched videos of a real British Pakistani wedding as research. And the mehndi was done by Pavan – the fastest mehndi artist in the world," said Shabnam Mahmood, an advisor on the soap wedding.
