10 Work Freak-Out Scenes

When people are frustrated, overworked, underpaid and possibly over-caffeinated, things can go terribly wrong at work, leading to an explosive meltdown. Though these types of scenes can be pretty awful to experience in real life, they can be quite entertaining when depicted in a movie or television show. For your afternoon entertainment, we’ve rounded up some of the most embarrassingly hysterical moments that had coworkers’ heads turning, tears streaming and people yelling. Watching these tantrums unfold adds a little perspective and may help you avoid becoming a victim of a work-induced meltdown of your own.

Entourage

Ari Gold thinks he’s getting promoted, but instead he gets fired and everyone in his immediate path is at risk. Upon his exit, he has the office’s undivided attention as he shares his not-so-nice views on the agency he’s been running. He soon discovers the hard way that some of his most important possessions are courtesy of work, including his cell phone and car. Photo: HBO

Office Space

It seems that the IT department can’t keep up with the machinery in the office, because fax machines, printers and copiers are always out of commission. These colleagues have had enough paper jams and printer errors for a year! When Samir, Peter and Michael all have bouts with the unreliable work equipment, they don’t hold any anger back. The Office

There are so many freak-out scenes on this popular TV show that it was hard to pick just one, but this flare-up tops them all. Dwight is frustrated with the staff for not paying attention to his fire safety presentation, so he decides to take matters into his own hands and initiate a surprise fire drill. The staff begins to panic and chaos ensues—printers are thrown out the window, Angela’s cat is lifted into the attic and Stanley has a heart attack. Photo: NBC

Jerry Maguire

Even if you haven’t seen the film, you’ve probably heard about this scene. Jerry has just been fired from his job as a sports agent, and decides he will make a memorable exit, declaring he wants to start his own company and even “take the office fish” with him. The whole office is staring as he makes a scene and challenges anyone to come with him, but Dorothy is the only taker. Photo: TriStar Pictures

Liar Liar

We know that he’s prone to having episodes, but this particular flare-up by lawyer Fletcher Reede office is definitely breakdown material. While alone in his office, he struggles to say one little fib—that his pen is red. What he doesn’t know is that as his son blew out his birthday candles, he wished his father couldn’t lie for a whole day. A tough feat for any attorney. Photo: Universal Pictures

Spanglish

Housekeeper Flor lays down the law in Spanish while her daughter translates the torrent into English for her boss, John. What started as a simple request for the kids to collect sea glass turns into a huge issue when Flor’s daughter collects $650 worth. When Flor discovers the money, she has an outburst because she feels that John should’ve discussed it with her before giving the money to her daughter. Photo: Columbia Pictures

Erin Brockovich

The sassy yet intelligent Erin Brockovich is always getting into arguments with boss Ed, but she’s finally had enough. She is an overworked mother who is doing her best to defend the town of Hinkley in a major corporate coverup. When no one seems to listen to her, things become heated, but her determination and persistence go a long way. Photo: Jersey Films

The Nanny Diaries

When Annie is unfairly fired by irresponsible mother Mrs. X from her job as Grayer’s nanny, she begins to voice her frustrations and concerns for the family. She finds the hidden “nanny cam” located in an oversized teddy bear while gathering her belongings from the house and she lets him have it. She finally says everything that is on her mind—and hopefully helps cause a change of heart in Mrs. X. Photo: The Weinstein Company

The Devil Wears Prada

When Emily finds out she is not going to be attending Fashion Week in Paris, an event she has been preparing for since she got the job at Runway fashion magazine, she goes off the deep end. Andy breaks the news to her while she’s in the hospital with the flu—and let’s just say the scene is not pretty. Photo: 20th Century Fox

Clockwatchers

This aptly titled film centers around four office temps who form a bond. It all goes downhill when Margaret gets fired for the wrong reasons. With the whole floor staring, she has to be escorted out by security as she proclaims her frustrations about the company and the women she considered friends.
