I&B Minister meets broadcasters

In the wake of a the controversy over reality show `Sach Ka Saamna` telecast by Star Plus, the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting on Thursday held a meeting with broadcasters to discuss the matter and try to evolve a consensus on its long- pending content code.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni held a meeting with representatives of News Broadcasters Association (NBA) and Indian Broadcasting Federation (IBF) to discuss the issue of content code whose draft is on the ministry`s website but yet to be finalised.

According to sources, the main trigger for the meeting was the television programme `Sach Ka Saamna`, however the main discussion centered on how to evolve a consensus between
the ministry and broadcasters for firming up the content code.

Soni is understood to have told broadcasters at the meeting that the channel was sent a showcause notice after the reality show had created a storm in Rajya Sabha yesterday and action was demanded on the matter from the ministry by MPs.

"All of us, whether private players or others who raise objections, there are sensitivities which have to be addressed by everybody," Soni told reporters after the meeting.

Star Plus was given the notice last night by the ministry and it has to a reply to it by July 27.
