Ranbir confesses about his girlfriends to Bipasha Basu!

While Deepika is apparently hitting off really well with Shahid post her break-up with Ranbir, the Kapoor scion too seems to have found some comfort in none other than Bipasha Basu. And for all those who thought Ranbir and Bipasha didn’t make the perfect onscreen couple together in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, news has it that Ranbir thinks differently.

It’s been revealed that Ranbir is very fond of Bollywood bombshell, Bipasha. A source says that whenever the actor wants to relax and chit-chat about some personal stuff – like confessing about his girlfriends or just have a quiet dinner with a pal, he doesn’t think twice before calling up Bips!

The two became close chums while shooting for ‘Bachna...’ and the friendship is going stronger, it seems.

On the other hand, Bips too hits off really well with Ranbir and strongly believes that he’s one of the top-notch actors in the B-town. And yes, let’s just clarify here that her beau John Abraham knows of her friendship with Ranbir, and he doesn’t mind the actor at all. So no doubts about that please!

Glad to be alive in 2009, says Amitabh Bachchan

That he is humble is quite well known, but he is a simple man at heart is a revelation for the fans of Amitabh Bachchan. The Big B- oops, he doesn’t like being called that-, the Shahenshah of Indian cinema was simply thankful that he was alive in 2009. As 'Bigg Boss' and this year come to a close, Shashank Chouhan of spicezee.com gets chatty with the superstar of the decade Amitabh Bachchan.

Shashank: Now that it’s over, how do you look at your second stint on the small screen?

Amitabh: It was a novel experience to the one I had done earlier – different parameters, different thoughts and presented differently.

Shashank: When it was getting dirty on the show, what did you think- did you want to intervene, quit or what?

Amitabh: I would wait for Friday and then go in and talk to them and question their behaviour and seek reason.

ShashankYou were asking everybody on the finale ‘whom do you think will win’. What would have been your answer?

Amitabh: I am required to be not involved in the process and therefore giving my personal choice for public consumption would be inappropriate. I will respect the choice of the people who voted.

ShashankWhat was the most interesting part for you on the show?

Amitabh: The moment of public confession. It requires a very strong mind to be able to speak out your inner feelings in front of others.

ShashankDo you think, again in retrospect, that all of the behavior of the inmates was real- some of it certainly was to grab attention…

Amitabh: Well…I would like to believe that all the housemates were honest in their approach to the game.

ShashankWho surprised you the most on the show and why?

Amitabh: There were no surprises for me. I was there to view them dispassionately, and I did just that.

ShashankHave you got more offers for television shows?

Amitabh: Yes, indeed I have. They are being considered. You will know about them when something is finalized.

Shashank:As the year ends, what was the most memorable thing of 2009 and what is it that you would like to forget…

Amitabh: That I was alive. How can one ever forget that!!

Shashank: What is Big B looking forward to in 2010?

Amitabh: My name is Amitabh Bachchan. I do not subscribe to the epithet you mention. I look forward to life.

EastEnders` Pakistani wedding tops UK`s TRP charts

An Asian wedding, complete with dancers and a horse drawn buggy, was what the British audience tuned in to during the New Year as the wedding of Amira and

Syed in the BBC soap `EastEnders` topped UK`s TRP charts.

A peak of 12.3 million
viewers tuned in to see the lavish wedding of the two Pakistani characters, beating off competition from the cult series `Dr Who`, reported Daily Mail
online.

"We are absolutely delighted that it was a huge night for EastEnders with 12.3 million tuning into watch the Masood wedding on New Year`s Day," said a BBC spokesman.

And the public broadcaster put in quite an effort to make the wedding as authentic as possible.

"Amira`s costume was bought in an Asian boutique in East London then sent to India for a fitting. The scriptwriters watched videos of a real British Pakistani wedding as research. And the mehndi was done by Pavan – the fastest mehndi artist in the world," said Shabnam Mahmood, an advisor on the soap wedding.

Clash of the beauty queens!

Four former Miss Indias - Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra, Neha Dhupia and Celina Jaitely - are ranged against one another in a different contest to top the Box Office as each of their films hits the screens this month.

While Neha`s `Raat Gayi Baat Gayi` and Celina`s `Accident On Hill Road` hit theatres Friday, Priyanka`s `Pyaar Impossible` and Sushmita Sen`s `Dulha Mil Gaya` are slated for release next Friday.

"It`s interesting to note how all our films are releasing in the same month. I`m delighted but I must say whatever be the outcome, I am very proud to be a part of `Raat Gayi Baat Gayi`," said Neha, who had won the Miss India crown in 2002.

According to industry insiders and the market buzz, the only film to have garnered the maximum interest so far is "Pyaar Impossible" - a romantic comedy about a beauty and a geek from the Yash Raj Films stable. The Priyanka-Uday Chopra film releases next Friday.

The songs of the film are already among the chartbusters and youngsters are going ga-ga about Priyanka`s look in `Pyaar Impossible`.

Even Sushmita`s `Dulha Mil Gaya`, which also releases next Friday, is much awaited, specially due to superstar Shah Rukh Khan`s extended cameo in the movie. The film narrates the story of four individuals, each with a different take on relationships.

Apart from Sushmita, who won the Miss Universe title in 1994, the film features Fardeen Khan and newcomer Mohit Chaddha.

However,`Raat Gayi Baat Gayi` and `Accident On Hill Road` are not being received with much fanfare at the Box Office.

`Raat Gayi Baat Gayi` has been directed by Saurabh Shukla and features Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey. It is about how a one-night stand with a mystery woman affects three marriages.

On the other hand, `Accident On Hill Road` is a thriller helmed by debutant director Mahesh Nair. It is apparently adapted from Hollywood flick `Stuck`.

So watch out for the bevy of beauties... coming to a theatre near you.

Secret to married bliss, the wife is always right!

Liu Fuben and his wife Shi Jihui are the world`s oldest still living married couple. And they`ve revealed the secret of 85 years of married bliss - the wife is always right!

Fuben, 95, and Jihui, 100, spoke after registering their claim with the Guinness Book of Records.

Liu said: "We are still very much in love and always will be. As to the secret of a long marriage - avoid arguments like the plague and remember the golden rule - she`s always right."

His wife Shi added: "It`s true I am but that doesn`t stop him doing what he wants anyway."

The Beijing couple had an arranged marriage when they were very young as was common in China at that time. Liu was only ten at the time and Shi 15, reports The Telegraph.

Shi added: "I suppose being older meant I could bully him a bit and train him to be a good husband. They say you can`t teach an old dog new tricks so get them while they are young.

"In our village at that time, men used to marry at a very young age while the wife should be a several years older than the man so she can better take care of the family and be more mature."

The couple`s son Liu Shuxi, 64, said: "They still really love each other."

"My mother takes very good care of my father still," Liu said.

Neha Dhupia throws condoms at college crowd!

Neha Dhupia says she had to be goaded quite a bit to throw a goody bag full of condoms and contraceptive pills at a college crowd here to promote her film 'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi' but realised it was a great marketing strategy that sent out a positive message.

"We had gone to the Mood Indigo festival at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Mumbai and I was asked to throw around this goody bag. I said `No! I`m not throwing it`," Neha told media. "But my producer (Rangita Nandy) insisted that `You must because it`s got everything to do with the film`.

"And I was like `No! What are we trying to project?` But I guess that was her way of promoting the film. We are just mediums. So I said yes to it."

‘Raat Gayi Baat Gayi’, a Percept Picture Company (PPC) project, is about a one night stand. The movie has been directed by Saurabh Shukla and also features Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey.

The producers were trying to pull off a successful marketing stunt by throwing bags full of condoms, contraceptives, Disprin pills, et al, and Neha finally did it after realising that the exercise had a message attached to it.

"There was a message in all this - that if you have a hangover or if you are having a very drunk night - you must have contraceptives, protection, or antacid pills like Disprin. Everything was there in the bag. The message was - take it and go party. The bags had everything except cash to buy the alcohol," said the 29-year-old.

The former beauty queen says she was pleasantly surprised with the response from the young students.

"The way the students reacted to me was so beautiful. It was the first time I ever went up to the stage and sang. I sang like a rock star or at least I thought I was. They just grabbed the bags. But if at that time, even if I would have thrown the wire of the mike, they would have grabbed it. Actually, initially I was hesitant about throwing it, but I learnt how to laugh with it," she said.

After "Raat Gayi Baat Gayi", in which she plays a mysterious woman called Sophia, Neha is looking forward to movies like "Action Replay", "Raftaar" and "Pappu Can`t Dance Saala".

She, however, admits that she would like to do a romantic movie opposite Bollywood`s king of romance Shah Rukh Khan.

"I am looking forward to a nice romantic film which hasn`t come my way yet. I am hoping to get that soon. I am a big Shah Rukh fan and I would like him to be in it but then it doesn`t have to be him. It can be anybody. It`s just that Shah Rukh is magnificent," she added.

Married couples better at dealing with health shocks

If you’re married, you are better able to cope economically with disability and health shocks, according to a new study.

In the working paper by University of British Columbia economists Giovanni Gallipoli and Laura Turner, researchers examined data from the Canadian Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) and found that in marriages, "main-earners" (typically husbands) tend to transfer income and compensate "second-earners" (typically wives).

The second-earners, in turn, provide conditional time and care in periods of need (such as illness and disability of main-earner).

The insurance the second-earner provides to the main-earner in the marital contract serves as an important mechanism to help smooth out household income in periods of health and disability shocks to the main-earner; and as a way to support the future earning potential of the main-earner, said Gallipoli.

The researchers also found that the relative value of marriage changes in different ways for men and women as they age.

Men who receive bad shocks early in life may lose the insurance offered by marriage by being sorted out of possible matches in the early stages, according to the study.

Marriages become more stable the longer the couple is together, and uncertainty is resolved.

The long-term costs associated to health shocks are particularly high for main-earners in the early stages of their working life, because they imply a permanent loss of human capital and earning potential.

Other findings include that “low-risk” marriages, where the main-earner is in a low-risk health state, are more stable and encounter less renegotiation and termination of marital contracts at every stage of the life-cycle.

The researchers also found that men who are at high risk of receiving health and disability shocks value marriage early in life, when they are poor in both assets and work experience.

As these husbands age, their gains from marriage decrease as "buffer stocks" of human capital and assets are accumulated and they become more likely to trigger a renegotiation of the marital contract. These later renegotiations are referred to by the authors as a "midlife crisis."

All men value marriage at the late stages of their working life as they approach retirement, and the end of their main-earner status, as well as during periods of high health risk.

Finally, former flames Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were spotted together for the first time after their subtle break-up! The two looked absolutely comfortable with each other as they were spotted stepping out of a five-star hotel at Worli and then taking off in a waiting car.

Ranbir and Deepika were at the hotel for an event, which had several B-Town biggies in attendance. A source says, "Ranbir and Deepika arrived separately for the event. They were cordial at the bash. It was the first time they were spotted together after they parted ways."

Advani to quit as Leader of Oppn, Swaraj to take over

A generational change in the BJP hierarchy may be on the anvil with Leader of Opposition L K Advani likely to quit his post next week and party President Rajnath Singh stepping down on Saturday.

Sources said Advani is likely to announce his decision to step down as Leader of Opposition in the Parliamentary Party meeting to be held on the morning of December 21, the last day of the current Parliament session.

However, BJP's Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, who declined to talk about Advani's moves, said the Parliamentary party meeting on December 21 will not take place in case the winter session of Parliament adjourns sine die tomorrow itself.

BJP President Rajnath Singh is slated to tender his resignation on December 19, paving the way for Maharashtra party unit Chief Nitin Gadkari to take over, party sources said here today.

"BJP Parliamentary Board meeting will be held at 3 pm on December 19 followed by a meeting of office-bearers of the party," BJP headquarters In-charge Shyam Jaju said.

Sources said Rajnath Singh will submit his resignation to the Parliamentary Board in this meeting.

Gadkari has been called to Delhi for the meeting and will be anointed party unit Chief. The decision will be ratified by the BJP National Council.

In the wake of these developments, a number of posts would be up for grabs in the party. The elevation of Swaraj as Leader of Opposition is almost a certainty, sources said.

The race for the post of Deputy Leader of BJP in the Lower House is now between Ananth Kumar, Gopinath Munde and Shahnawaz Hussain.

Munde and Yashwant Sinha are also eyeing the post of Public Accounts Committee Chairman which has fallen vacant after Jaswant Singh's resignation.

The glamorous Katrina Kaif was not only the most searched celebrity, pipping Jackson and Salman Khan, she was also at the second spot in most popular mobile queries, coming just after 'Orkut'.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan does not figure in the top ten most searched celebrities but his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai is there along with Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox and Sachin Tendulkar.

at a new Guinness world record through the 1 Population 1 World dance event.

The event, Penang Golden 2010 (PG2010), which has been organised for the fifth consecutive time by CreatiVision DC Sdn Bhd and supported by Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd, coincides with the 53rd celebration of George Town`s city day.

More than 100,000 people are expected to throng Padang Kota Lama for the event on New Year`s Eve.

The pinnacle of the evening will be a 10-minute fireworks display to mark the beginning of the New Year.

CreatiVision managing director Adelyn Lim said they had decided to have something spectacular this time as it would be a dual celebration.

She said they hoped to attract more than 30,000 people on New Year`s Eve to join the largest dance event ever in order to create a Guinness world record.

She said the dance was in aid of Unicef`s Unite for Children campaign.

Participants will dance for five minutes to the tune of Sean Kingston`s `Fire Burnin` On the Dance Floor`.

The current record for the largest dance group is 7,770 people in Cebu, the Philippines.

"We also want to showcase our 1Malaysia spirit," The New Straits Times Online quoted Lim as saying at the launch of the event at the Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences on December 7.

Lim said the 1 Population 1 World dance was a non-political, non-religious and non-profit campaign, co-ordinated by the company`s corporate social responsibility-youth social responsibility unit, Rainbow of Life Forces.

There will also be live performances by artistes such as popular groups Estranged and SoFaz, and Hafiz (Akademi Fantasia season seven winner), Amy Wang (Astro Talent Quest runner-up) and newcomer The Villanz.

Meanwhile, Celcom northern region vice-president Saiful Bahrin Abd Ghaffar said the telecommunication provider had lined up special offers, promotions and lucky draw prizes at their booth at the event site.

Shah Rukh sent the audience into peels of laughter when the actor said, "I will take my flag and put it up in America after becoming the biggest porn star of the world."

It all started when Arindam Chaudhuri, read excerpts from his book 'Discover A Diamond In You' and gave example of Stallone`s determination and his journey from being a porn star to becoming one of Hollywood`s icons. He also referred how Akio Morita, founder of Sony, Japanese electronics giant, started the company with a dream to have his country`s flag flutter high on the soil of US. Rihanna makes nervous rapper wet himself

Rihanna poked fun at her own `tough as nails` image with a SNL skit where

she made a mumbling rapper wet his pants during a duet.

The `Umbrella` hitmaker
teamed up with comedian Andy Samberg for the skit, reported Sun online.

Performing in front of a class of kids, Rihanna sang her part before handing over to Shy Ronnie, who found the occasion too much.

In her trademark delivery, Rihanna sang "Speak up. Shy Ronnie, speak up."

Nervous Ronnie continued to mumble, with Rihanna impatiently singing him some advice, "Move the mic away from your face. Come on, this beat cost a lot of money."

Then still singing, she looked down in disgust and groaned, "Oh no! Oh no! He`s pissed himself. Oh boy, should have paid Kanye. Bye Shy Ronnie, bye bye."

Rihanna then walked out of the classroom, only for Shy Ronnie to suddenly burst into life and start rapping like Eminem.

But he hurriedly went back to mumbling when Rihanna briefly returned singing "Forgot my purse. Bye."

The girl who painted Gandhi

Gandhi had thrown a poser to an aspiring artist - I’ll pose for a portrait if you can complete it in 30 minutes. The young girl took up the challenge.

Main Story

In what makes a remarkable story, in the year 1934, a European artist Elizabeth Sass Bruner and her daughter Elizabeth Bruner (Lizi), who was an aspiring painter, were travelling across India on the advice of their Gurudev, Ranbindranath Tagore.

At a government school in Bangalore, a multitude had gathered, waiting with bated breath for a glimpse of the Mahatama, who was due for a visit. Somewhere squashed and hidden were the mother-daughter duo among the teeming sea. As the clock ticked away, Elizabeth grew more anxious, she tugged her daughter along to the verandah, where they stood near a pillar.

The first encounter

At last the moment came, when Gandhiji arrived. But to the surprise of so many, he squeezed through the crowd and walked straight to where Elizabeth stood half-hidden and said, “I know you”, before taking her into a warm embrace. They looked at each other mystically and then Gandhiji turned to a startled Lizi, who was well aware that the two were meeting for the first time. A spiritual bond had obviously established.

Taking them both by the hand, Gandhiji then introduced them to his party, before proceeding towards the reception committee and then the inner courtyard.

A fascinated Lizi watched this carousel of events. Gandhi ji went and sat on the dais addressing this all-women gathering. As it was spoken in Hindi, she understood very little, but observed that women started removing their ornaments and submitted them before him as a contribution towards the freedom movement.

After the fortuitous meeting, Gandhiji invited the two of them to attend his prayer meeting in the evening. As the gloaming painted sky in orange hues, Gandhi ji sat under a big tree in garden singing a medley of bhajans. Lizi sat behind the crowd as her mother feverishly drew her sketches, capturing the mood of the magical evening.

Just as Gandhiji got up to leave and the crowd began to scatter, Lizi saw her moment. She rushed ahead saying, “Bapu ji, Bapu ji”.

Bapu turned around and looked quizically at her. What followed was witty repartee.

Bapu: Yes

Lizi: I have a request. I would like to paint you, please give me time.

Bapu: Why do you want to paint an ugly man like me?

Lizi: Bapu ji, I want to paint your soul.

Bapu: How much time do you want?

Lizi: Half an hour.

Bapu: Do you little chick of a girl beg to say that you can paint my soul in half an hour?

Lizi: Bapuji, can you prove that I can’t?

Bapu: Okay, you will have that half an hour tomorrow afternoon.

The unforgettable portrait

Next day, a damp grey afternoon of wintery January 08, Gandhi ji, clad only in a Kashmiri shawl and dhoti, sat on a verandah, busy doing some paper work. It was his day of Maun (silence). Looking up at Lizi, he took out his watch and placed it in front of him.

Lizi was both cold and nervous and the thought of 30 odd cameramen waiting below only added to her unease.

There was a lack of space for the set-up. Gandhiji signalled to Lizi that she must start. But soon after 30 minutes, he sent her a slip saying her time was up. Ms Brunner communicated that 10 minutes were used up in placing her easel and paints. And by that standard she had 10 minutes left. Gandhi ji agreed. At the end of given time, Lizi placed the portrait in front of him. Bapu’s face lit up with joy and he promptly autographed it with a paintbrush. The young Elizabeth was grateful, beyond words. She did not know how this incident would help her burst on the Indian national scene as a recognized artist. The shutterbugs had captured this beautiful moment, and newspapers next day screamed about how a Hungarian artist had painted Gandhi ji in 30 minutes. Elizabeth had got her break.

An intimate friendship

The painting, more impotantlty, won little Elizabeth Gandhiji’s affection. He invited her and her mother to travel with him to Conoor where he was to stay for two weeks. By the time they arrived, Lizi was suffering from malaria and the chill of the hills only aggravated her condition.

Hearing about her illness, Gandhiji came to her room and asked after her health. He then asked an attendant to get him a glass warm milk. Lizi was taking vegetarian diet then, avoiding even milk products. Gandhiji held her pale face in his hands and requested, “Have it for my sake” and then fed her with his hands. In what young Elizabeth continued to believe as a miracle, her fever disappeared the next morning.

While Elizabeth continued to hold a treasure trove of stories of how Gandhiji, worked, lived, prayed and read, the above incidents clearly reveal Gandhi to be more than just a nationalist leader who fought for the freedom of our country. She perhaps through her encounters portrayed him to be a very humane, sensitive and a spirtiual person; and in doing so she, in one way, painted to us his soul, a promise that she had made to Bapu.

Shiney granted bail in maid rape case

After spending nearly four months in prison, Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja has been granted bail today. The actor who was in prison for the alleged rape of his 19-year old housemaid will have to pay a sum of Rs 50000. Besides the bail money, the star will also have to abide by the Bombay High Court’s order to stay in Delhi and surrender his passport.

Even though the actor has been granted bail it will take a couple of days till he gets released. The court’s decision came after an intense three-day hearing wherein Shiney’s lawyer presented several reasons for the actor’s immediate release.

Besides the negative DNA report, Shiney’s failing health was some of the reasons on which his lawyer stressed upon. After his release Shiney will have to move to Delhi as that is his original place of residence and will have to make necessary visits to the police station nearest to his home in the capital.

Talking to media, Shiney's wife Anupam Ahuja said, "From day one we have maintained that Shiney is innocent. Our faith in the judiciary is reaffirmed. I am glad to have Shiney back home."

As to whether the actor can continue acting in films is not known. The 36-year-old actor was seen crying and wincing in pain when he was produced in a Mumbai Court earlier this week .

Ahuja, who was unable to walk, was assisted into the courtroom by two constables. He was later brought outside and made to sit on a bench where he lied down, quivering. Following this his lawyer Sameer Nagre moved an application seeking medical treatment at the earliest.

I don’t have body confidence: Fox

She has been named the world’s sexiest woman, but Megan Fox insists she
